Send topics for discussion to pyoung@midsouth.rr.com The creation of
this newsletter is a fulfillment of a commitment to give back to the Christian
school movement. So many have invested time and energy into my life. My desire
is to provide an avenue for older, more experienced administrators to offer
mentoring opportunities for those young struggling administrators who desire
to make a difference. My desire is to make this forum practical and beneficial.
Let us know the issues you want to discuss. I'll find someone to tackle the
issue with you.

Your
School Has No Right To Exist Unless
You Are Distinctively Christian by Paul Young |
||||||||||||||
|
Several years ago I asked an alumnus of the class of 1982 to sing at a school event that had a large crowd of parents attending. I brought with me to the podium a copy of the basketball schedule that we had played in 1982. We had played twenty games that year. I placed the schedule on an overhead projector and began to mark a line through the schools that had since closed. If we had attempted to play that same schedule today, we could only have played six games. Most of the schools had closed. Those that were still around were either public schools or parochial schools. Why had we survived when so many others had failed? I am sure there are a number of factors, but I am convinced there was one important factor that set us apart. What was our distinctiveness? Our school had had a turbulent history, but since 1979 we had purposed to be distinctively Christian. I did not believe that we had a |
right to exist if we were not distinctively Christian. I also believed that the most important thing that occurred in our school did not happen in my office or in the board room. The most important thing that was happening in our school was happening in the classroom. I discovered that I could have the best Christian philosophy of education in the world, but if it was not being lived out in the classroom, we were not successful. Developing a Biblical world and life view and belief system in the lives of the young people we teach is our responsibility and our mission. We must continually strive to find ways to equip our teachers so that they can train the next generation to think Biblically. That is the only hope for America and for the children for whom God has given us responsibility. My great concern is that we talk more about Biblical world and life view than we teach or practice it in our schools. |
Recently I was made aware of two outstanding programs that can assist you and your school in the development of a Biblical world and life view. I would encourage you to take advantage of these resources.
Making the Connections:
I would encourage you
to allow this group to equip every teacher. |

Technology,
The Internet, E-mail and Your School
|
||||||||||||||
| I am constantly amazed at schools that do not have a web site nor that take advantage of e-mail in communicating with their parents and students. Times have changed … methods of communication have changed. Schools today that desire to market and communicate to this generation must have a presence on the web and | should invest in broadband internet and e-mail service. I seldom purchase a product that I have not first researched on the web. The same is true for those that are looking for a school. Their first visit will be to the internet. Chances are they will not visit your school unless they can first check you out on the web. The least | expensive and fastest way to communicate is by e-mail. You can use products like Group Mail from Infacta to customize and personalize your e-mail communication. Don’t be left behind … get connected at high speed. It cost me one penny to send you this newsletter … why pay more? | ||||||||||||

Strategic Planning Web Site Style & Design by Dr. Phil Halliburton |

We live in an
exciting time when the planet is at our fingertips. It is amazing how someone
can step into the internet world and type a keyword in a search engine and
retrieve all types of information. I am of the persuasion that a web site
can be of tremendous use to a school, business, or church. I am also convinced
that an organization that does not have a website is way behind the times.
Most younger people — and some older ones too ): — look at websites to learn
more about the school/organization that they may want to become associated
with. What does it take to have a quality web site? Can anyone create a site?
What value is there in it? How much time does it take to create one? How much
does it cost to have a web designer create one? What about site hosting and
all that represents? These are some of the questions that I have spent hundreds
upon hundreds of hours researching. I have talked with web designers and host
companies, reviewed web sites, and thought through the process in-depth. My
research revealed that schools with a quality website will receive a much
better market share of incoming students! The beauty of this truth is that
most any school — small, medium, or large — can raise their enrollment numbers
by having a quality topnotch website. I became very interested when International
Christian School of Seoul, Korea, needed a web site many years ago. Several
designers were contacted, and I shared my web site vision. Depending upon
the depth of the website, it is common to have a completed site published
within five to ten days after storyboard development. I became so fascinated
with web site design that I decided to learn it myself. So began my odyssey
.… Clearly remember that your web site is like creating
a strategic
plan. Who are your key stake holders?
What |

|
is
the mission of your school or organization? Make sure to think through the
process and develop a storyboard of what your site should be once it is published.
It is very important to ask yourself where your organization will be five
years down the road. Make sure to create a site that can adjust with your
growing demands. To make a very LONG story short, I ended up creating our
school’s website. Check it out at http://icseoul.org.
Many parents have told our admissions director and office staff that they
chose ICS because of our school’s web site. They felt that if we took that
kind of time putting together a web site, then we would not skimp on educating
their child. Something to consider as you create AND maintain a site! From
this personal growing odyssey, I realized what a great

ministry this could
become. I went on to create sites for other schools and now own a design,
domain, and hosting company: http://pugsleywebmaster.com
If you don’t have a school site, please prayerfully consider having one
created – soon! Also, make sure the site is kept up to date. Isn’t technology
great? You can have a quality five page web site with up to six images web
published within ten working days for as little as $350.00 (includes domain
address), that will give your school a presence on the web. Of course, the
more detailed the more expense. Also, I can host it for only $18.00 per
month. My servers really are topnotch. If you want me to create your site,
host and maintain it, I will give you an even bigger discount! You are welcome
to contact me if you have further design or hosting questions. I am always
happy to help. Go ahead and have that site created or perhaps redesigned
soon if you haven’t already done so. |
