By: Phil Halliburton, PhD "So I tell you, don't worry about everyday life, whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn't life consist of more than food or clothing." Matthew 6:25 Being principal is not an easy gig, but rewarding at times. I have seen and faced so many unusual and difficult situations. During the early years of my principalship, I would bring my problems home with me and meditate on them continuously. It seemed that I could never obtain mental rest. At my previous principal job, I lived on the fifth floor of the secondary building. Everyday, I would walk up the stairs and proceed past lockers in route to my apartment. One landing down directly under my apartment I noticed an open locker. As is typical of many lockers, it was filled with books, pictures, papers, colors, calculator, etc. The locker looked very messy and was cluttered with a wide array of a panoramic mess. As I looked at the locker, I thought, that is the way our mind sometimes is, cluttered and colored with many thoughts, ideas, and challenging situations. But, when I reached down to close the locker shut, no one could tell what was inside. I decided to shut my problems in locker 48 before I went home everyday. Then, when I returned to work, I would touch the locker and retrieve the problems that existed. The Bible reminds us to, 'Cast our Cares on the Lord, for He cares for us.' Don't spend an excessive amount of time worrying or wasting time 24 hours a day on situations you are responsible for. Take time to rest and place your cares in locker 48 or more importantly, Cast your cares on the Lord and trust in Him to maintain the locker of your mind. I. Don't Worry - Tomorrow will
have enough problems without you creating more in your mind! |
