The creation
of this newsletter is a fulfillment of a commitment to give back to the
Christian school movement. So many have invested time and energy into
my life. My desire is to provide an avenue for older, more experienced
administrators to offer mentoring opportunities for those young struggling
administrators who desire to make a difference. My desire is to make this
forum practical and beneficial. Let us know the issues you want to discuss.
I'll find someone to tackle the issue with you.

How To Pray For Me As Your Administrator
by Paul E.
Young
Pray For Me
Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers,
because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
James 3:1
How to Pray For Me:
- That I might find favor and good understanding in the sight of God
and man. (Proverbs 3:4)
Pray that my relationships would not be driven by power but would be based
on kindness and truth.
- That I would subject reason to revelation. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Pray that I would depend on God even when it flies in the face of
reason in all areas of my life.
- That God would "lead me not into temptations and would deliver
me from evil…" (Matthew 6:13)
"Be self-controlled and alert Your enemy the devil prowls around like
a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."
(I Peter 5:8)
I am convinced that because of the position I hold I am on the devil's hit
list! He will use every weapon in his arsenal to attack and discourage me
and my family.
- That I will keep the vision clear and the mission central.
"...where there is no vision the people perish."(Proverbs 29:
18)
Note to administrators: Be sure you can articulate your school's mission
statement. If you can't say it...you can't deliver it!
- That I would have wisdom and understanding. Pray that I would seek
wisdom and understanding knowing that "the beginning of wisdom is the
fear of the Lord and the knowledge of that which is holy is understanding"
(Proverbs 9:10).
I recognize that we are dealing parents' most precious possessions when
we deal with their children. I need wisdom, understanding, and discernment
when we meet with parents, especially in areas that evoke emotions and stress
(i.e., discipline, lack of academic success, and development delay.)

Making Prayer Meaningful
to Elementary Students
By Tricia Whitaker, Highview Baptist School, Louisville,
KY
Here in Louisville, Kentucky, celebrity gatherings and pounding hooves
mark the first week of May. Throw in a few hats and thoroughbreds and
everyone knows it's Kentucky Derby time again. At Highview Baptist School,
the elementary students and faculty are excited about more than a two-minute
race. On the first Thursday in May, our elementary students sit in military
haves, climb into the cab of an eighteen wheeler and meet face to face
the men and women who serve our local community each day. No, it is not
career day- it is the National Day of Prayer. Welcome to our Prayerwalk.
The purpose of the Prayerwalk is to make prayer a meaningful experience
for students in grades K-5. While our junior high and high school students
are praying for the needs of our country in their own prayer service,
the smallest members of our school lift up the needs of those who serve
them each day throughout our community.
The Prayerwalk is designed to be an interactive event between the students
and community service personnel. The students go to each "station"
to meet the various professionals assembled. A policeman shares his needs
and those of his fellow officers for safety as they patrol the neighborhood.
The firemen share the need for safety as they fight to save lives and
property. Our county clerk representative brings a voting machine reminding
the students to pray for our elected officials. The Army and the Air Force
soldiers in their camouflage remind us to pray for those who defend our
freedoms and our nation's interests around the globe. EMS and the Red
Cross represent those who respond to health and disaster emergencies.
After meeting and listening to the representatives, each class takes a
moment to pray specifically for men and women in that profession. When
the prayer time is completed, students receive a stamp from each station
in their personal "Prayer Passport."
Not only are our service personnel represented but also those who minister
to our spiritual well being. The local Christian radio station brings
its live-broadcast van and the students get to be a part of the encouragement
and edification of our community's believers. At the Salvation Station,
the students are reminded to pray for our pastors as they present the
plan of salvation each week to our families and neighbors. The students
also hear the gospel presented to them in an age appropriate way.
It is not over yet, though; there is one more stop on our Prayerwalk tour.
The students make one last stop before heading back to the textbooks and
assignments. It is time for the balloon release. Each student receives
a balloon with a postcard attached. The postcards ask the person who finds
the balloon to share any prayer requests that they may have with the school.
The student body will then pray for them in chapel.
As the last yellow balloon floats off into the distance, students and
volunteers alike head back to their various responsibilities. The community
servants go back on the job with the prayers of more than three hundred
children hovering over them. Parent volunteers have smiles on their faces
after witnessing the joy of their children talking to their Creator. As
for the children, prayer has taken on a new excitement and a new reality
in their lives.

Purpose
And Essence of Prayer
"Prayer is not a
time when we come to receive something from God. Prayer is an encounter with
a holy God. It is coming into his presence - entering into fellowship and
a relationship with Him. It is the means by which we get to know Him. Out
of the personal intimate knowledge of God the victory of Jesus flows through
us and into the world around us."
"...God does not want merely to give us victory, but He is our victory."
